Real Ales List
Theakston XB 4.5% ABV
A premium strength beer with a rich, fruity taste to match. Ruby coloured, the Xtra strength in XB brings out its complex aroma to perfection. Why “XB”? In the early 1980s when this beer was about to be launched, the question around the brewery was “what are we going to call it?” At that time, Best Bitter casks were stencilled with ‘BBB’ and Old Peculier casks with ‘XXXX’. Being thrifty Yorkshiremen with only ‘X’ and ‘B’ stencils to play with, we had a choice of either ‘BX’ or XB – we opted for ‘XB’!
Caledonian 80/- 4.1%ABV
A russet brown coloured beer with a malty, fruity aroma. Smooth and creamy, very easily drinkable. Good balancing dryness with clovery spiciness in a softly hoppy finish.
Deuchars IPA
“Deuchars IPA is a fabulous beer. A brilliant blend of malt and hop character and above all a drink with enormous drinkability.” Roger Protz, Editor of the Good Beer Guide.
Everards Tiger 4.2% COMING SOON

Ten long years in our beachfront warehouse with their soft sea breezes give this fine malt a gentle island flavour. Tall refined stills and generations of tradition coupled with the finest wood create a gentler island malt in keeping with its surroundings.
Jura Superstition
The people of Jura are superstitious. From the prophecy of the one-eyed Campbell to an aversion to cutting peat before May, age-old island beliefs resonate to this day.
Highland Park 12 Years Old
The first proprietary bottling of Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky was as a 12 year old in 1979. It remains the core expression of the Highland Park range and is a smooth, balanced single malt, with a rich full flavour and a gentle smokey finish. Tasting notes Colour: Glowing amber Nose: Heather-honey sweetness; peaty smokiness Palate: Rounded smokey sweetness; full malt delivery Finish: Teasing, heathery, subtle smoke. Delicious Take your time to appreciate the nose of Highland Park 12 Year Old and you’ll discover the characteristic honey sweetness followed by fruit – maybe pineapple, apple or pear. On the palate it is drying and leaves a gentle smokey feeling and a flavour that just keeps on going.
Highland Park 18 Years Old
First released in 1997, Highland Park immediately found favour with whisky writers and enthusiasts all over the world. It is a perfectly balanced single malt with a toffee sweetness and a mouthwateringly smokey finish. It was awarded the ultimate accolade in 2005, when US spirits writer F. Paul Pacult named it “Best Spirit in the World”. He states; “After 25 years’ experience, it fits my profile of what makes a perfect whisky, which is to say it’s totally in harmony, there are no rough edges and everything is melded together brilliantly.” Tasting notes Colour: Natural colour; burnished gold, clear and bright Bouquet: Rich, mature oak; top note of aromatic smoke Palate: Rich, full flavour; honey and peat Finish: Soft, round and long The nose of Highland Park 18 Year Old displays characteristic toffee sweetness and an almond nuttiness reminiscent of marzipan. The finish is a prolonged, full, smokey aftertaste.
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Laphroaig Quarter Cask takes its inspiration from the small casks often used for Scotch Whisky in the 19th century and frequently transported across the Glens by packhorse. As the industry grew, they fell into disuse – bigger and more cost effective barrels became the norm, for maturation and transportation. However as single malt lovers may know, the relationship between the barrels and the maturing spirit is critical. We noted that the small cask size gives up to 30% greater contact with the wood compared to some of the larger sizes used today, thus greatly intensifying the maturation process. It was decided to recreate some of the Quarter Casks and the flavours they produce. We transferred some still maturing Laphroaig from our larger style barrels into the Quarter Casks. There then followed a further periods of maturation in our original Dunnage Warehouse No1. For greater authenticity we simply barrier filtered the whisky – the method used in those far off days – and bottled at a higher alcoholic strength. The result surprised and delighted us. The additional oak influence creates a soft sweetness and velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig, comes bursting through. The finish is very long and alternates between the sweetness and the peat.
Laphroaig 10 Year Old
Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an all-malt Scotch Whisky from the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced "La-froyg", is a Gaelic word meaning "the beautiful hollow by the broad bay". In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. Laphroaig is best savoured neat, or with a little cool water. Roll it around on your tongue. Release the pungent, earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nuttiness of the barley, the delicate heathery perfume of Islay's streams. It is as unique as the island itself.
Laphroaig 25 year old
Laphroaig 25 year old has been lovingly created by marrying Laphroaig that has been matured in Oloroso Sherry casks with Laphroaig that has been matured in ex-American Bourbon Barrels; both were filled with newly distilled Laphroaig spirit from day one. When you marry together the sherried, oaky flavours from the 2nd fill European Oak Oloroso Sherry Casks with the creamy, smooth, sweet flavours from the ex American Oak Bourbon barrels you end up with a marriage made in heaven that’s called Laphroaig 25 Years Old. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is a perfect fusion of these two most different styles of maturation flavours, made even smoother by the 25 years it has had gently maturing.
Ardbeg Ten Years Old
Ardbeg Ten Years Old is a very special bottling for the Ardbeg distillery as it is the first non-chill filtered whisky in the Ardbeg range. Chill filtering isn`t a bad thing, in fact it created real consistency of product when the whisky industry was a little more `hap-hazard` than it is today. Ardbeg Ten Years Old is whisky with none of the goodness taken out and as good as straight from the cask. We are unable to deliver whisky to the USA or Canada.Named `World Whisky of the Year` 2008 by Jim Murray. 70cl, 46%ABV
Ardmore Traditional Cask Highland Single Malt
Colour: Burnished Gold Nose At bottle strength the influence of the two styles of maturation casks compliment each other producing a full bodied smooth aroma. The maturity that shows through comes from the America barrels and the spicy creamy nose from the old style smaller casks. A touch of water allows the full complexity of the Highland Peated Malt to appear. The rich softness linked with smooth, slightly dry aroma is combined with just enough earthy peat smoke to avoid being overpowering. Palate: At bottle strength the full rich flavours burst and fill the mouth with a creamy peat tang and a touch of vanilla’s soft gentleness. If a touch of water is added then the flavours increase with the addition of a sweet ripe fruit start followed by the tang of peat. Nose: Full, succulent and quite long. The full bodied smoothness can be best appreciated at bottling strength but with a touch of water the full complexity can be recognized

Glenfiddich Caoran Reserve
Caoran - pronounced ‘ku-ran’ - comes from the Gaelic for “peat ember” - this whisky’s underlying theme. Its inspiration comes from the days when coal shortages meant greater amounts of local peat were used to dry the malted barley A true blast from the past, Glenfiddich Caoran Reserve revives a forgotten taste: a bold, powerful single malt Scotch whisky that captures its native rugged landscape with every mouthful. The Taste First comes a smoky aroma, then spicy top notes that develop into a characterful blend of sweet fruit with distinctive peaty undertones and a smooth, lingering finish.

Makers Mark Bourbon Whisky
When Bill Samuels chose to restart the distillery in 1958, he chose to place it in Loretta, Kentucky. Maker's Mark is based on corn, barley and winterwheat. The world has Bill's Wife Marge to thank for the unique Maker's Mark bottle; she collected cognac bottles and was probably inspired by that when doing the design. Marge was also the one to come up with the name 'Maker's Mark'. Makers Mark is a great bourbon and has truly earned its close to 'cult status' in the US. Appearance: Golden. Nose: Distinctive oak character with fruit and vanilla. Taste: Full-bodied and full of taste. Finish: Long, lingering taste with some creamy hints of fudge.

A rich, confident blend, full of class and elegance. Scotch watch out! 43.0% ABV
Fettercairn, Single Malt 12-Year-Old
Fettercairn is the single malt many commentators love to hate, and admittedly the make of a few years ago was probably best left for the blending vats. However, the present house 12-year-old bottling is a drinkable if unspectacular whisky – once you get past the early nose! Notes of cabbage water on the nose are followed by something fragrant – violets? – and altogether more pleasing. Quite big in the mouth, sweet, with malt, spice and some vague fruitiness, but lacking clear direction. The finish is short. 40.0% ABV
Fettercairn, Spanish Oak 23 YO distilled 1984
Nose : Very light. Slightly nutty. Palate : Light and smooth. Vanilla, caramel, sweet light maltiness and nutty. Finish : Short and drying.
Fettercairn, Limited Edition American Oak 15-year-old
For too long Fettercairn has been dismissed in many quarters as an ‘also ran’ among single malts. Now, with the release of two cask strength expressions, the brand’s overdue rehabilitation can really begin. Fettercairn is a rare surviving ‘Eastern Highland’ distillery, and is part of the Whyte & Mackay portfolio. The American White Oak expression is more floral on the nose than its companion Oloroso Sherry bottling. It is also well balanced on the palate, with nutty flavours, toffee apples and a suggestion of marzipan. 62.6% ABV

Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 yo
Whisky blends, like people, have individual characters. Some are smooth and polished in their manners, but may be short of character; then there are others that have strength, but lack lasting presence. But a characterful whisky blend, like a person, should be interesting to get to know. If everything is divulged at once, then there is nothing further to be revealed. However, if you feel that there's more to discover, then you will want to explore your acquaintance further. Johnnie Walker Black Label has an enigmatic character. The first sip leaves you with an overwhelming curiosity to discover more. As Black Label's deep taste unfolds a myriad of flavours are revealed in several waves: first, there is an impression of silky richness; then deep and fruity foreground flavours give way to drier peaty nuances, followed by the complementary flavour tones of sweet vanilla and raisins. This unique complexity is achieved by expertly blending an extremely diverse, but complementary range of malt whiskies, each of which has been matured for a minimum of 12 years and some for much longer. In total, up to 40 malts and grain whiskies make up the Johnnie Walker Black Label blend. Island and Islay malts deliver spice, richness and lingering peat. Speyside malts make an important contribution to the depth of taste, bringing smoky malt, fruitiness, apple freshness and a rich sherry character to the blend. At the heart of Black Label lies 12 year old Cardhu, an outstanding malt from Speyside, which imparts silkiness, a characteristic which has made it famous as a single malt. Like a growing friendship between two people, getting to know Black Label is a profoundly satisfying experience that reveals new pleasures every time you meet. It's a taste that goes deeper than any 12 year old deluxe brand.
